I’ve always been attracted to things related to spirituality and the occult. Whether I came across interesting objects like a rosary with an exoskeleton engraved on the cross in my neighborhood as a kid or strangers with supernatural abilities like a woman I met at a Starbucks who told me she was a medium, I seem to gravitate towards people and situations that seem out of the “ordinary.”
While I’ve been having private conversations with people about these topics for years, lately the conversations have been more frequent and around the same questions: “where do I start?” and “how do I learn more?”
So, I created the I Care Project for people who are just starting on their spiritual journey but don’t know where to start and want options to figure what works for them.
This is not meant to be perfect. I don’t have all the answers. I just want to share what I’ve learned and experienced.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
I will share my experiences in different spiritual systems (astrology, human design, Ifa, and more) and share resources (books, articles, podcasts, classes and social media accounts) to assist you as you embark on your own journey but may be too scared or overwhelmed to ask for help.
Think of me as your spiritual content curator, helping you cut through the noise on Beyoncé’s internet to the best of my abilities.
This doesn’t mean you will be exempt from the frustration and disappointment that sometimes come with being on your spiritual journey so please don’t hold me liable lol.
I’ve been on my spiritual journey since 2016 (wow, I can’t believe it’s been a decade) during a time when the term “internet witch” wasn’t mainstream and those that were present were very few and far in between.
If I wanted information about spiritual practices, specifically African Traditional Religions (ATRs), I would go to the library to check out books, be referred to priests and priestesses through friends who were already connected or google a topic, order the book on Amazon and hope for the best. Twitter was also a great way to get resources and recommendations but I was referred to specific accounts by friends who were on their journey as well.
I would sometimes cover my books with gift bag paper and brown paper bags (still do actually) so no one could see what I was reading on public transportation or at work. Perhaps that was a bit excessive but I didn’t want people in my business.
SPIRITUALITY FOR EVERYONE
Nowadays, tarot, astrology, ATRs and spirituality in general are on all corners of the internet – so much so that the Wall Street Journal podcast had an episode entitled “The Witch Business is Booming”, where they interviewed Etsy witches and people who paid for their services about what they do and how it’s impacted their life, relationships and finances.
But what people may not share on social media is that the process of going on your own journey is discerning what works for you and what doesn’t – but that doesn’t mean you need to engage with dangerous, careless or neglectful activities and people.
My journey is just that – mine – so while something worked for me, it may not work for you – and that’s okay. A former teacher used to tell me “one person’s medicine can be another person’s poison… so learning how your spirit works is the most powerful and important thing you can do.” So, enjoy the journey but pray for and practice discernment.
Even though I’ve been on my journey for a while, I still have more learning and growing to do because, to keep it real, this path never truly ends – like the moon, the phases just change.
I’m excited to see how we all grow together so thanks for reading this far.
Are there any topics or questions you have for me? I will write about them and/or answer them in the next blog post and will keep your name anonymous.
Can’t wait to hear from y’all!
